Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz by L. Frank Baum - Chapter 16

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is filled with Baum’s signature blend of fantasy, adventure, and humor. The story's whimsical world-building and imaginative creatures make it a delightful addition to the beloved series.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is the fourth book in L. Frank Baum's Oz series, first published in 1908. The story begins with Dorothy Gale, who, along with her kitten Eureka and cousin Zeb, is visiting her uncle's ranch in California. After an earthquake strikes, they, along with Zeb's horse Jim, fall into a deep crevice that leads to an underground land filled with magical and fantastical creatures. As luck would have it, the Wizard of Oz, who had previously left the Emerald City in the first book, also happens to be in this magical realm.

In this new underground world, Dorothy and her friends encounter strange beings such as the vegetable Mangaboos, the invisible Gargoyles, and the wooden flying animals known as the Dragonettes. The Wizard uses his resourcefulness and cleverness to guide them through these challenges, while Dorothy shows her usual courage and optimism.

Eventually, they make their way back to Oz with the help of Ozma, the ruler of the land, who transports them to the Emerald City. In Oz, familiar characters like the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion make their appearances, welcoming Dorothy and her companions.
