The Emerald City of Oz by L. Frank Baum - Chapter 30

The Emerald City is built all of beautiful marbles in which are set a profusion of emeralds, every one exquisitely cut and of very great size. There are other jewels used in the decorations inside the houses and palaces, such as rubies, diamonds, sapphires, amethysts and turquoises. But in the streets and upon the outside of the buildings only emeralds appear, from which circumstance the place is named the Emerald City of Oz.

The Emerald City of Oz is the sixth book in L. Frank Baum's famous Oz series, published in 1910. In this installment, Dorothy Gale brings her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry to the magical Land of Oz to live, as they are struggling with financial hardships in Kansas. Dorothy believes that the wonders and safety of Oz will provide them with a better life.

The story also focuses on the villainous Nome King, Roquat the Red, who plots to invade Oz with the help of a series of allies. Meanwhile, Dorothy and her friends, including the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion, explore more of the fantastical realms within Oz, encountering magical creatures and adventures along the way.

Unlike earlier books in the series, The Emerald City of Oz brings a sense of finality to Dorothy’s adventures, as Baum initially intended this book to be the conclusion of the series. The book showcases Baum's rich imagination with its quirky characters and imaginative landscapes while also reflecting themes of friendship, family, and the contrast between the mundane and the magical.
